Parasites, Diseases, and Disorders of Poultry: Recognizing and Treating
By Jeff Duguay, Ph.D., and Howard Davenport
In Parasites, Diseases, and Disorders of Poultry: Recognizing and Treating, authors Jeff Duguay, Ph.D., and Howard Davenport deliver a practical and highly visual reference for anyone who keeps poultry — from backyard chicken owners to dedicated breeders.
This 8½ x 11, 139-page book covers a wide range of poultry parasites, diseases, and common disorders, providing:
- Concise descriptions of symptoms and how each condition spreads
- Treatment guidance where appropriate, including dosages and withdrawal times
- Full-color photo examples of affected birds and the parasites themselves
The book also includes an invaluable “Strange Behavior and Odd-Looking Things” section, explaining common but often misunderstood observations — like the purpose of a chicken’s preen gland and other normal anatomical features that can confuse new poultry keepers.
Additional topics include:
- Parasite prevention and management
- Biosecurity practices to protect your flock
- How to perform a physical exam on poultry
- Information on avian influenza (bird flu) and other emerging diseases
Whether you raise chickens, ducks, geese, or turkeys, this book is an essential reference for maintaining healthy, thriving flocks.
